Olympus to invest 4 million euros in a biogas production station | Progresiv
Olympus, one of the largest dairy producers in Romania, invested 4 million euros in a biogas production station.
The station is located on the platform of the Olympus plant in Halchiu, Brasov County, and produces an average of up to 600 cubic meters of biogas per hour and has a storage capacity of 2,000 cubic meters. This reduces the quantities of methane gas and significantly reduces the costs of the plant's production process. Thus, the production unit became energetically independent as a result of a reduction of up to 60% in the demand for methane gas used in the internal consumption of the plant.
The Olympus factory in Halchiu is part of the Hellenic Dairies group. It has an area of 35,000 square meters and a total milk collection capacity of 75 tons per hour. The products are distributed in hypermarkets and supermarkets in Romania, Italy, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, France and Sweden.
The Hellenic Dairies Group, one of the largest dairy processors in Southeastern Europe, has reached ten years on the Romanian market, investing over 130 million euros locally. The Olympus Dairy Plant in Halchiu, Brasov County, was inaugurated in 2011, and its production is intended for both the local market and exports. Currently, 45% of the plant's production is directed to foreign markets, the most important being Germany, Austria, Italy, Great Britain, Sweden or Bulgaria.
Headquartered in the city of Trikala in Greece, Hellenic Dairies is a business with operations in 43 countries around the world. Currently, Olympus has five production units in three countries (Greece, Romania and Bulgaria), which produce a full range of dairy and natural juices.
In 2018, the company reported a net turnover of 468 million lei at a local level, marking an increase of 8% over the previous year. In terms of profit, Olympus reported a net result of 12.4 million lei, whereas in 2017 it reported losses of 1.04 million lei.
