MOLDOVA: Kaufland’s investment in Moldova amounts to 60 million euro | Progresiv
German retailer Kaufland will invest 60 million euro and open in 2020 six stores in Moldova. The expansion on this market will be operationally managed by Kaufland Romania.
The amount of the investment was made public after a meeting between the Minister of Economy from Chisinau , Octavian Calmic, and Kaufland Romania general director, Marco Hößl, earlier this months. The first discussions about the Germans’ entry in Moldova appeared a year ago.
Currently, the company opened an office in Chisinau and is at the stage of identifying land for construction of stores. Meanwhile, retailer representatives are in talks with manufacturers and local distributors on product listing, having the opportunity to reach store shelves in Romania as well.
Kaufland, part of German group Schwarz, is one of the largest European food retail operators, with over 1,200 stores in seven countries (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania). In Romania, Kaufland hypermarkets chain currently includes 108 units, the company reporting for 2014 a turnover of nearly 8 billion lei, up by 10% compared to the previous year.
