Modern retail openings in June | Progresiv
In June, international retail chains continued their investments in expansion, 17 commercial units being inaugurated. The number is similar to the openings of last month, these being the months when retailers marked most openings, given that in the first half of the year were opened 73 stores in total. Regarding sales channels, this month the proximity format is the star of the openings. 
The first position among the most expansive retailers is occupied by Profi, who opened 10 new stores, followed by Carrefour and Mega Image, each with two units. On the third place in the ranking are Kaufland, Penny Market and Lagardere Travel Retail, each opening one store.
Profi focused on expanding in rural areas this month, seven of the ten operating locations being opened in the Loco format. The retailer also opened two stores in standard format and one in Profi City format. With these openings, the retailer owned by Polish investment fund Enterprise Investors reached the threshold of 411 commercial units operated nationwide.
Carrefour opened two supermarkets, thus marking its first opening in Filiasi, Dolj county, the Market chain thus reaching 110 stores.
Belgian retailer Mega Image continued to expand its proximity chain, both stores opened operating under the Shop & Go banner. Thus, Mega Image currently has 479 stores operated under the Mega Image, Shop & Go and Gusturi Romanesti (Romanian Tastes) banners.
Kaufland also continued investments in Romania by opening its first hypermarket in Ferentari neighbourhood in Bucharest. This is the second opening for the retailer since the beginning of the year, reaching a chain of 109 stores nationwide.
Lagardere Travel Retail also opened in Bucharest the 14th 1 Minute store, inside the Iris Business Park, the investment value amounting to 90,000 euros.
Penny Market, part of the German group Rewe, has added a new town on the expanstion map, opening its first unit in Campeni. By opening this store, the Penny Market chain reaches 176 stores.
