"In accordance with the provisions of the Competition Law (No. 21/1996), this operation is an economic concentration that exceeds the value thresholds provided by the law, being subject to the Competition Council’s control. The Competition Council will evaluate this economic concentration in order to establish its compatibility with a normal competitive environment and will issue a decision within the terms stipulated by the law”, the competition authority report states.

The owners, the Reinert and Kühnl families, will each own 50% of the shares of the newly founded company, which Wolfgang Kühnl and Hans-Ewald Reinert will manage as partners. The new company will operate under the name The Family Butchers, the merger leading to the creation of the second largest meat processing company in Germany, with an annual turnover of over 700 million euros.

The merger will be finalized at the end of the year, after obtaining all the necessary approvals from the authorities responsible for supervising competition. "The Family Butchers" will have nine production plants and 2,600 employees.

"We are determined to find answers to the challenges of the meat industry. Our merger creates a strong company with sustainable competitiveness. We are thus prepared for the demands of the future”, Hans-Ewald Reinert explained the motivation behind the merger,.

"We remain a company owned by a family with a clear, long-term orientation and a value oriented towards trust. We are aware of our responsibility for the development of a sustainable business and the safety of our employees and customers "added Wolfgang Kühnl.
