Lidl Spain steps into the food-for-now segment | Progresiv
As more Spanish consumers demand prepared meals from grocery retailers, discounter Lidl has responded to the trend with a new section dubbed ‘Ready to Eat’ that features 14 dishes for immediate consumption. These include two packaged hamburgers among the eight hot dishes Lidl says are prepared locally. These, and other hot dishes like nuggets, wraps and half-roast chicken, are priced at 1.99-2.99 euros, making the offer highly competitive versus competitors like Mercadona or Carrefour.
The six chilled dishes, supplied by Catalan company Bo de Debó, include meatballs with garden sauce, Russian salad, Iberian ham croquettes, risotto , Bolognese macaroni and paella. The trial is currently running at four Lidl outlets in Madrid, but is expected to be rolled out nationwide once shopper demand is confirmed. (www.kantarretailiq.com)
