Lidl looking to open stores in 55 UK locations | Progresiv
Lidl has revealed it is looking to open brand new supermarkets in 55 locations in southern UK counties Surrey and Hampshire.
The German supermarket chain has identified potential locations across the two counties as it aims to establish a foothold in a string of towns, some of which already have established branches.
Requirements include sites with easy access and strong pedestrian or traffic flow that are located in prominent areas of towns and districts.
The list isn't set in stone, with Lidl claiming on its website that it will consider other opportunities in addition to those listed and some of them may also be relocating to a different area in the town they're already based now.
A Lidl spokesman said: "As part of ongoing national expansion plans, our dedicated property teams are working hard to identify suitable locations across England, Scotland and Wales.
"This is for both new stores where there is demand for a Lidl, and existing stores that we would like to remodel for customers, which may require a relocation t do so.
"We would encourage any landowners or agents who may be aware of suitable sites, to get in touch with our property teams to discuss."
It is not the only supermarket on the hunt for Surrey and Hampshire premises. Fellow German budget specialists Aldi wants to open stores in 28 Surrey and Hampshire locations, including several of the same locations as Lidl. (www.getsurrey.co.uk)
