Lidl Germany advances plans for modular store construction | Progresiv
The first project for a Lidl outlet featuring residential building comprising serial modular construction is in the preparation stage. Together with construction company Max Bögl, Lidl is in the final planning stage for a mixed-use property with 26 apartments in Berlin. The apartments above the store will consist of room modules produced at Max Bögl in Sengenthal to a high degree of prefabrication and precision and then assembled on site. Construction is planned for early summer 2020, with the build scheduled to be completed in less than one year.
Lidl sees modular construction as a solution for housing shortages in major cities. “With modular construction, construction time is significantly reduced. This enables us to open more quickly than if we tear down branches and build new apartments.” stated Alexander Thurn, Head of Real Estate Project Development and Warehouse Expansion at Lidl Germany.
