Lidl exported Romanian products worth 28 million euros last year | Progresiv
German discounter Lidl exported last year to European stores Romanian products worth more than 28 million euros, 40% more than in 2017, the company announced.
Products such as dairy, oil, juices or snacks have arrived on the shelves of Lidl stores in Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Slovakia and Hungary. The data were included in the second Lidl sustainability report, for the period March 1, 2017 - February 28, 2019.
The data presented in the report include the value of the Romanian products that arrived in Lidl stores in Europe, the number of Romanian Lidl partner suppliers and the investments in their development, the measures and the results obtained in reducing the quantity of plastic and in increasing the quantities of waste collected and recycled, the value of investments in partner NGO projects, as well as other information about the company's sustainability efforts.
Thus, over 80% of the suppliers of goods and services were from Romania. Moreover, the quantity of vegetables and Romanian fruits purchased increased in 2018 by 19.42%, compared to 2017. In total, over 90,000 tons of fruits and vegetables were purchased from over 200 local producers, Global Gap certified.
The number of suppliers in Romania for the whole assortment increased in 2018 by 9.69%, from 320 in 2017, to 351 in 2018. In contrast, Lidl eliminated from its assortment and from the recipes of the items purchased from the Romanian suppliers the eggs that come from from chickens raised in batteries.
On the other hand, the number of products from the Camara Noastra (Our Pantry) private label range increased by 75% - from 98 products in 2016, to 175 products in 2018.
