Kaufland’s business in Romania accelerated its growth pace in 2018 | Progresiv
German retailer Kaufland reported for the financial year 2018 a turnover of 10.8 billion lei in Romania, thus maintaining its position as leader of the local retail market. Compared to 2017, the retailer marked a 7% business growth.
Net profit was also on an upward trend, with a growth rate of 17% compared to 2017, up to the threshold of 788 million lei. Thus, the company earned a net profit margin of 7.2% last year, one of the best in the food trade, but also the best performance of the retailer since entering the market.
Last year, Kaufland only marked four openings, as five commercial units were inaugurated this year by the end of May. In fact, plans for 2019 include the opening of at least 9 commercial units.
Kaufland entered the local market in 2005 and expanded annually at a pace ranging from 4 to 13 stores, an expansion that kept business on an upward trend. Last year, for example, the company has allocated a budget of 200 million euros for expansion and remodeling.
