HUNGARY: Tesco tops FMCG sellers list, surpasses local chains | Progresiv
The local unit of UK’s Tesco supermarket chain topped Trade magazine’s list of the biggest sellers of fast-moving consumer goods last year based on revenue, editor Zsuzsanna Hermann said, according to Hungarian news agency MTI. Tesco Globál Áruházak had gross revenue of 748 billion forints (2.4 billion euros) last year. 
Runner-up was Hungarian-owned Coop, with sales of 571 billion forints (1.83 billion euros), followed by locally-owned CBA, with 509 billion forints (1.63 billion euros).
Foreign-owned Spar was in fourth place with turnover of 491 billion forints (1.57 billion euros) and Hungarian-owned Real was fifth, with 389 billion forints (1.24 billion euros).
German-owned Lidl had turnover of 359 billion forints (1.15 billion euros) and French-owned Auchan had revenue of 337 billion forints (1.08 billion euros). Penny Market (221 billion forints – 708 million euros), Aldi (135 billion forints – 433 million euros) and DM (77 billion forints – 247 million euros) were at the bottom of the list.
