GERMANY: Turnover up 2.5 % for Germany's 30 largest supermarket groups | Progresiv
The 30 largest German supermarket groups managed a 2.5 % turnover increase in 2015 (243.99 billion euro). Edeka is still number one, but Aldi (+ 1.5 % in 2015) jumps from 5th to 4th, surpassing Metro.
Market leader Edeka managed a 2.8 % turnover increase to 53.28 billion euro in 2015. Second is Rewe, with a 3.3 % turnover increase (39.606 billion euro), while Schwarz Gruppe (Lidl, Kaufland) grew 1.4 % compared to 2014. Aldi Gruppe (Nord and Süd) surpasses Metro this year, to claim position 4, which had been Metro's for the past 11 years. The discounter's turnover grew 27.797 billion euro, up 1.5 % compared to 2014.
Metro's turnover dropped 0.5 % in 2015, reaching 26.13 billion euro. The result is excluding Galeria Kaufhof's turnover as the company sold the department store chain to Canadian Hudson's Bay, which was also in the running to acquire V&D in the Netherlands.
