FRANCE: Carrefour tests connected trolley | Progresiv
Carrefour has been testing a connected trolley at its hypermarket in Lille. Helps build a better picture of the shopper and influence purchasing decisions
A tablet connects to the trolley, and this tablet is linked to Carrefour's Promo C-où app which allows customers to scan barcodes and add items to their shopping list. The test applied and builds on the connected LED technology already being trialled in this store in partnership with Philips. This lets shoppers see different promotions, with offers displayed tailored to the shopper's position in the store at the time, helping to encourage impulse purchases.
Shoppers can 'like' their favourites, allowing the store to build up a picture of their preferences and in turn encourage the development of further personalisation. Shoppers can also make notes on the tablet of products to remember as they travel round the store.
Innovations such as these are great vehicles for personalised communication and interaction with shoppers while there is an opportunity to influence the decisions they are making at the point of purchase. We are seeing more retailers experimenting with different technologies to ensure they catch shoppers at the right time and in the right place.
Carrefour has been particularly progressive in this field. It has also tested Pepper the robot in one of its hypermarkets in the Claye-Souilly region of France, to ensure that shelves are optimally stocked and products are correctly displayed and priced. (www. igd.com)
