FRANCE: Auchan investing 1 billion euros in hypermarkets | Progresiv
Auchan France has announced plans to invest a billion euro into its chain of hypermarkets, with the majority of the funding to be assigned for the renovation of already existing stores, retailanalysis.igd.com reports.
The intention was revealed to the media by Vianney Mulliez, chairman of the grocer, at the unveiling of a 12,000-square-metre hypermarket in Meaux, northeast Paris. This occurred under the Auchan.fr banner as a means of emphasising the multichannel capabilities of the store.
The billion-euro investment is over 50 per cent greater in cost than original estimates suggested it would be. The work will take place between now and the end of 2017.
Much of the store modernisation will involve wifi-installation, on-shelf digital ordering units, and digital signage. (www.esmmagazine.com)
