Foods were 4% more expensive in September | Progresiv
During the last year, food products became more expensive by 4.07% due to higher imports and production costs. However, compared to the middle of the year, September was a month when prices were more temperate.
Data from the Institute of Statistics show that food is the second most expensive, after services. Compared to the end of 2018, prices for potatoes increased by almost 12%, flour by 4.45%, which also translated into higher prices for bread. Thus, the bread in September cost 2.79% more than in December 2018.
The meat products were also more expensive, and the African swine fever brought more increases throughout the entire production chain. Pork meat cost 5.3% more, and meat preparations increased by 3.83%, according to data from INS.
The only products for which INS has shown a significant reduction are eggs. In September, they were 5% cheaper than in December 2018.
