Food price increases, tempered at the end of the year | Progresiv
Consumer prices increased in November 2019 by 3.77% compared to the same month of 2018. During this period, food increased the most, by 4.9%, followed by services (+ 4.19% ) and then non-food products (+ 2.83%).
In the top of foods whose prices registered the highest increase in the first 11 months of the year are potatoes, fresh fruits, citrus fruits, but also pork meat.
Thus, the data of the National Institute of Statistics show an increase of price for potatoes by almost 21%, for fruits by over 15%, and pork meat costs at the end of November 8.24% more than in December 2018.
The bread also costs more since the raw material prices increased by 5.18%. INS data indicates a 3.39% increase in the price of bread on the shelf over the last 11 months.
The only price decrease are reported for eggs (-1%) and canned vegetables (-3.3%).
For 2019, the National Bank of Romania has reduced the inflation forecast from 4.2% to 3.8%.
