For the first time since entering the market, Lidl Romania reports financial results | Progresiv
Five years since entering the market, Lidl – the discounter of German group Schwarz – exceeded the threshold of one billion euros in Romania, reporting in the financial year 2015 a net turnover of 4.7 billion lei, after a 20% business advance compared to the previous year. The profit also registered a spectacular growth, reaching 172 million lei, almost triple compared to 2014, according to data reported by the company. This is the first time since the market entry when Lidl reports financial results to date, along with the rest of the companies in Romania.
With the exceeding of the threshold of 1 billion euros in sales, Lidl reconfigures the ranking of international retailers active on the local market, reaching the third position by turnover in 2015. Kaufland, also part of German group Schwarz, remains in first place, with a turnover of 9.17 billion lei (2 billion euros) in 2015, and Carrefour maintains the second position, with a turnover of 6 1 billion lei (1.35 billion euros).
Lidl entered the Romanian market in 2011 by taking over 107 stores owned by Plus discounter. Now, Lidl has a chain of 195 stores and will reach over 200 operational stores nationwide by the end of the year, according to the expansion plans announced by the company.
