Ferrero aims to acquire Belgian Delacre | Progresiv
Italian media report that Italian group Ferrero tabled a bid for Belgian cookie producer Delacre, Turkish Yildiz Holding's property since 2014. Through one of its subsidiaries, Ferrero allegedly offered to buy Delacre, according to Italian paper La Stampa. "This is an opportunity to explore an interesting market, one that Ferrero has not entered yet and that presents a significant growth potential", an internal report allegedly says, claims the paper.
Delacre, founded in 1872, has been baking cookies since 1891, currently on sale in more than 30 countries. British group United Biscuits acquired it in 1998 and sold it to Yildiz Holding in November 2014. The Turkish company has another Belgian asset, praline manufacturer Godiva.
Ferrero is known for its Tic Tac, Mon Chéri, Kinder and Nutella brands, with a 9.54 billion euro turnover in its past fiscal year. (www.retaildetail.eu)
