EU probes Casino and Intermarché buying alliance | Progresiv
The European Commission has opened a formal antitrust investigation to assess whether French retailers Casino and Intermarché coordinated their conduct in the market, in breach of EU competition rules. In November 2014, the pair set up a joint venture called INCA for a joint procurement alliance of their branded products.
In February 2017 and May 2019, the Commission conducted unannounced inspections at the premises of Casino and Intermarché as part of an inquiry into possible collusion between retailers through purchasing alliances.
According to its statement, the Commission is concerned that Casino and Intermarché went beyond the purpose of their alliance and engaged in an anticompetitive conduct. In particular, the Commission will investigate whether they coordinated activities on the development of their shop networks and pricing policy towards consumers. (www.kantarretailiq.com)
