Croatian supermarkets report increased sales in 2015 | Progresiv
The top 10 Croatian supermarket chains saw 4% revenue growth to over 36.74 billion kuna (4.91 billion euros) last year, a study has found, after a period of stagnation in 2014. The positive performance is due to increased personal consumption and returning consumer optimism.
According to data from the Financial Agency (FINA) analysed by T-Portal, leading Croatian retailer Konzum generated revenues of 14.94 billion kuna (+11.1% y/y), accounting for one quarter of the entire sector (58 billion kuna), with a 74.8 per cent growth in gross profit to 295 million kuna.
Plodine placed second with revenue of 3.87 billion kuna (+13.6%), followed by Lidl with 3.71 billion kuna (+13.1%) and Kaufland with 3.22 billion kuna (+7.4%).
The top 10 also includes Spar (2.53 billion kuna, +14.6%); Tommy (2.26 billion kuna, +9.3%); Metro (1.8 billion kuna, +1.6%); Billa (1.68 billion kuna, +2.8%); Studenac (1.41 billion kuna, +12.4%); and KTC (1.28 billion kuna, +10.5%).
A separate study by MSA Adria/MCA Group reveals that Croatian consumers increasingly prefer local products, and that quality is more important than cost when it comes to purchasing decisions. (www.esmmagazine.com)
