Cora Romania annually eliminates 30 million plastic bags from the market | Progresiv
Cora Romania chain announced that it is removing from all its hypermarkets the bags of very thin plastic without handle, replacing them with biodegradable packaging certified at European Union level.
“With the transition to biodegradable packaging, Cora eliminates over 30 million plastic bags from the market annually. The new packaging complies with Romanian regulations and European environmental standards and is produced from materials that degrade in 6 months”, said Emanuel Pirvulescu, Head of Environment at Cora Romania.
He also said that the Cora chain welcomes the Emergency Ordinance OUG 50 / 2.07.2019, which has boosted and diversified the offer on the biodegradable packaging market. The retailer also supports the Ministry of Environment's decision to implement measures to reduce the consumption of very thin plastic bags without handle.
Among the measures by which the company implements its environmental protection policy aimed at reducing pollution and encouraging recycling, there are also the locations of charging stations for electric cars and recyclable waste collection centers in the parking lots of its stores. For the waste stored in these centers, consumers receive vouchers that can be used for shopping in the chain’s hypermarkets.
Cora Romania, part of the Louis Delhaize group, currently operates 11 hypermarkets in Bucharest and in the major cities of the country, as well as an e-commerce platform (www.cora.ro).
