The Competition’s warning to retailers: Do not raise prices unjustified | Progresiv
In the context of information emergence in the public space regarding the massive price increase in disinfectant products in the trade due to the explosion of the demand in the market, the Competition Council has transmitted that it closely monitors the behavior of the retail companies and that it will take punitive measures against the operators who are using the current crisis situation to raise prices without objective justification.
“The Competition Council closely monitors the behavior of companies and draws attention not to use this crisis situation for:
- raising prices without objective justification
- exchanging sensitive information (prices, commercial policy, etc.)
- excluding competitors from the market
- abusing the dominant position
- making anti-competitive agreements (in order to eliminate the commercialization of a certain product / service, fixing prices, dividing customers and territories)”- it is shown in a statement sent by the authority.
Thus, managers of trading platforms may impose measures to limit unjustified price increases for basic products and services. Also, taking into account the recommendations of the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations in order to reduce the clutter in commercial spaces, companies can take measures to reduce the operating program. In fact, several shopping centers have already announced a temporarily reduced schedule.
