Asda becomes first UK supermarket to launch 1-hour click & collect service | Progresiv
Walmart’s UK arm Asda is set to become the first UK supermarket to launch one-hour click & collect service following successful trials. Express Click & Collect will be rolled out to 25 stores by the start of February, with hundreds more set to launch by the end of the month, according to The Grocer.
The service, which has been successfully tested in Asda’s Killingbeck and Middleton stores, will include its full range of items, but will reportedly not be rolled out to stores with existing click & collect lockers or in petrol station click & collect services.
“As modern lives have become busier and busier, our customers have told us that they want even more convenient ways to shop, so we have been working around the clock to introduce new trials and roll out services that meet their needs without compromising on price or quality,” Asda’s vice president of online grocery Simon Gregg said.
“When we launched the Express Click & Collect trial, we expected to see people picking up forgotten items from their weekly shop, or basics such as bread, milk, nappies and last-minute dinner ingredients.
“In reality, it has been used for everything from a small weekly shop to those just wanting to pick up a few essentials. As a result of the huge demand we’ve seen in response to the trial we’re working hard to roll it out further early this year.”
This comes just days after Asda announced the launch of a new sustainable concept store where customers are encouraged to fill up their own containers with food. (www.chargedretail.co.uk)
