Apple Pay officially launches in Romania | Progresiv
Mastercard, along with its partners, announced the launch of Apple Pay in Romania. Apple's new payment service enables consumers to make smartwatch payments in stores as well.
"Starting today, thanks to Mastercard and its partners - Banca Transilvania, Edenred, Monese, Revolut and UniCredit Bank - Romanian consumers will be able to pay via the Apple Pay service, which will help simplify and secure mobile payments. Also, soon the clients of the Romanian Commercial Bank, OTP Bank, Raiffeisen Bank and Sodexo will be able to benefit from this service. Thus, through Apple Pay, consumers will be able to make fast and convenient purchases both in physical stores, applications, or online”, according to a press release by Mastercard Romania.
With iPhone and Apple Watch, consumers can pay with Apple Pay in stores, restaurants, for taxi services, automated payment machines and many other locations. For online shopping with Apple Pay, through mobile apps or sites, it is not necessary to fill out account forms or repeatedly enter transaction and billing information. Any purchase with Apple Pay is validated via the Touch ID, Face ID, or device password.
As for mobile payments with digital meal vouchers, a service activated by Edenred (who issues Ticket Restaurant Edenred cards), it does not involve any development or additional investment for traders - according to company information.
"More than 90% of Edenred meal voucher card payments in Romania are contactless, a strong indication that their users are ready for mobile payments", Edenred Romania representative added.
