ANPC proposes price limitation for products of strict necessity | Progresiv
In the context of the pandemic triggered by the new coronavirus and the decree of state of emergency throughout Romania, there is a substantial increase in demand for certain products, while the supply is within normal limits or even lower than usual.
"Considering this state of fact and in order to prevent certain incorrect or even illegal commercial behaviors, the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) proposes, for a certain period, the limitation of the prices for strictly necessary products that are part of the minimum basket of monthly consumption - as defined by the law -, in order to protect citizens from possible sudden and substantial price increases", according to a press release issued by the institution.
Moreover, the authority also argues that in retail stores it is necessary to apply reasonable limits on the quantities of the same product sold to a single person, in order to allow all consumers access to that product and to prevent any syncope in the supply. In fact, such messages are already displayed in large chain stores, such as Auchan.
If consumers find in the stores inconsistent situations or incorrect commercial practices, they are asked to notify the National Consumer Protection Authority. These include any inconsistencies between the price of a product on the shelf and the one billed at the cash register, or any inconsistencies between the price of a product being promoted and the reference one.
