23 distribution centers supply daily the large retailers in Romania | Progresiv
A number of 23 distribution centers supply daily the stores of the nine largest retailers across the country, working at this time at full capacity, shows an analysis of Dunwell, the largest independent Real Estate agency specializing in the industrial sector.
Kaufland, Carrefour, LIDL, Metro, Profi, Mega Image, Auchan, REWE and Cora groups have a total of over 950,000 square meters of warehouse space, of which more than 3,000 stores in Romania are supplied daily.
"Despite the difficult period we are going through, marked by many uncertainties caused by the spread of COVID-19 in the world, the large retail chains are supplied daily, under conditions of maximum security, from the 23 distribution centers throughout Romania. Our country has sufficient stocks of products and there will be no problems with the supply of stores in the coming period, especially since the international freight trucks have received a green light for circulation in the EU, so the risk of deposits and , later, the stores, to run out of goods, is low", said Marian Orzu, managing partner Dunwell.
Muntenia and Bucharest area, over 600,000 sqm of warehouses
With 14 distribution centers, the Muntenia area owns more than two thirds of the total area of warehouses from which the large stores are supplied, with over 615,000 square meters, where the activity of all the nine large retail chains in Romania is carried out.
In the Bucharest area we find the majority of investments in warehouses, over 400,000 sqm being represented by projects located in the West (Carrefour, LIDL, Profi, Cora), North (Auchan, Carrefour, Metro, REWE, Mega Image) but also South (Mega Image).
Transylvania area, about 250,000 sqm warehouses that supply the big cities in central and western Romania
Of the approximately 250,000 square meters of warehouses in the Transylvania area, the chains of five international retailers with hundreds of stores in the center and west of the country are supplied daily: Kaufland, Carrefour, LIDL, Profi and the REWE Group.
Cluj and its surroundings remain the main attraction of investments in warehouses for the FMCG sector, here being concentrated warehouses of approximately 180,000 square meters.
Moldova area, supplied from two cities with over 85,000 sqm of warehouses
The LIDL, Profi and REWE retail chains in the Moldova area are supplied daily from their warehouses located in Roman and Bacau, totaling over 85,000 square meters.
The largest share of deposits is concentrated in Roman, where LIDL and Profi have warehouses of over 70,000 square meters.
Online deliveries demand have reached a record high
Demand for online deliveries of major retail chains have reached a record high, so retailers have allocated additional warehouse space for orders placed online.
"Following the measures taken by the authorities to limit the exposure and exit of the population from the houses, the large chains of stores have registered increases of 30 - 50% of the volumes of online orders with delivery through their own transport services or outsourced, as the case may be, to the courier companies. Increases in demand during this period also reporte the warehouses of courier companies or companies specialized in food and non-food deliveries, where values are reported 10 times higher than those so far", added Marian Orzu.
According to Dunwell data, half of the retail chains in Romania have an online platform with the possibility of delivery or pick up from specific work points.
