Walmart opens its first small format supermarket in China | Progresiv
Walmart has launched its first small format supermarket in Shenzhen China, with five more planned for China by the year’s end. The store emphasizes fresh foods, fast delivery, value, and everyday convenience. The 10,000 square-foot store carries 8,000 items, uses electronic shelf tags, and occupies the first floor of a multi-story building. The store’s assortment focuses on chilled vegetables, fresh fruit, frozen foods, and pre-prepared foods. In-store services include laundry, shoe repair, and key cutting.
90% of the store’s assortment is also available online through Walmart’s JD Daojia site. While online, customers can buy e-gift cards, schedule home appliance maintenance, arrange flower delivery, and make travel reservations. The store offers Scan & Go mobile app checkout using WeChat and also provides free WiFi. (www.kantarretailiq.com)
