ROMANIA: Tuborg producer, 38% growth in sales of beer cans | Progresiv
United Romanian Breweries Bereprod, the producer of Tuborg beer, reported an annual growth rate of beer cans sales at 38% in the first five months of 2018 compared to the same period last year. The result was also strongly supported by the introduction of 100% recyclable, non-adhesive heat-resistant protective film at the level of the URBB local product portfolio - a solution for the implementation of which URBB has invested more than 2 million euros in 2017.
"In June 2017, we set ourselves the goal of having the cleanest doses. Consequently, we have invested considerably in order to have the most advanced foil available on the local market. The results are excellent: our beer cans sales in the first 5 months of 2018 rose by 38% over the same period last year, before the foil was implemented", said Shachar Shaine, URBB President.
URBB last year invested 2 million euros in the development and upgrading of the production line in the Pantelimon factory, Ilfov County, for the application of aluminum foil on the beer doses produced under the Tuborg, Skol, Skol Unpasteurized, Holsten and Carlsberg brands. The investment was part of a larger investment project aimed at developing and modernizing production capacity, but also launching new marketing products and campaigns, with the total investment budget allocated for 2018 being 10 million euros.
URBB owns brands such as Tuborg, Skol, Carlsberg or Guinness. Last year the company reported a turnover of 392 million lei, up by 5% over the previous year. On the profitability level, however, the producer reported losses of 2.79 million lei, given that in 2016 the profit was 8.89 million lei.
