ROMANIA: Philip Morris takes its second IQOS store to Constanta | Progresiv
Philip Morris Trading, one of the main players in the tobacco industry, opened its second IQOS store in Constanta, after the one in Cluj.
The store is located in City Park Mall and has an area of approximately 60 sqm.
"The IQOS Store concept, which will be implemented in other cities, is a well-defined one, but we are aware that every IQOS space takes from the effervescence of the city and the dynamic community in which it grows", said Branislav Bibic, CEO of Philip Morris Trading.
The inauguration in Constanta takes place one month after the opening of the first IQOS store, within Platinia Mall Cluj.
Recently, the company announced that it will turn its factory in Otopeni to produce tobacco reserves for the IQOS device, with the value of the project amounting to almost half a billion euros. The production will be for both the local market and the 25 countries where IQOS is present.
Philip Morris launched IQOS in Romania in 2015, positioning itself as a hybrid device between electronic and traditional cigarettes and designed to reduce the harmful effects of smoking. Furthermore, the device can also be used in enclosed spaces. IQOS differentiates itself from the current offer by the fact that instead of burning the tobacco it heats it to 300 degrees, delivering the same level of nicotine.
At the end of April 2017, company representatives were already talking about a market share of 1%.
Last year, Philip Morris Trading business amounted to 2.3 billion lei, according to the Ministry of Finance.
