ROMANIA: Pfeifer & Langen to close Zaharul Oradea factory | Progresiv
The Germans from Pfeifer & Langen will close the Zaharul Oradea factory, while the sugar production will be relocated to other factories within the group, the company announced.
"Last months have brought significant changes to the European regulatory environment in the sugar industry, in particular through the liberalization of markets. This EU-imposed reform fundamentally changes the business models of each market player and creates new realities for the European sugar industry. We believe that the future success of the sugar-producing companies will be decided especially at the performance level of their product portfolio, oriented towards increasing competitiveness", said the company's representatives.
Thus, the producer decided to relocate sugar production from Zaharul Oradea S.A to other factories in the Pfeifer & Langen group. In addition, a new company called Pfeifer & Langen Romania SRL was established, the main activity being the sale and marketing of products on the local market.
"Through this regional optimization, we want to increase the use of our production capabilities and reduce costs for our customers. The transfer of the portfolio of clients from Zaharul Oradea S.A to Pfeifer & Langer Romania will take place in 2018 and will have no impact on our customers, products, brand or contract conditions already established", said the company representatives.
According to the most recent reports, Zaharul Oradea ended the financial year 2016 with a turnover of 351.77 million lei, up by 17% over the previous year, but reported losses of 28.6 million lei.
