ROMANIA: Modern retail openings in February | Progresiv
International retailers continued their expansion plans in February, but the pace of openings was slightly slower than in January. Thus, last month, 12 retail units were opened, with three stores less than in January and three locations less than last February.
The retailer who marked the most openings is again Profi. Thus, in February, the player owned by the Mid Europa Partners investment fund inaugurated 8 stores, 4 of them in City format, 3 in Loco format and one in Standard format. With these openings, Profi gets to own 713 stores in 387 localities, being the largest chain of stores.
The retailers Mega Image, Kaufland, Carrefour and Penny Market have opened one unit each. Thus, Mega Image inaugurated the Cobalcescu store, the largest retailer's store, the value of the investment amounting to 3 million euros. An important investment came also from the German retailer Kaufland who opened the 13th hypermarket in the Capital and the 118th store nationwide.
Carrefour invested in expanding its supermarket chain and opened a Market supermarket in Siria Commune, Arad County, reaching 233 supermarkets at the chain level. The Germans from Penny Market opened a store in Targu Jiu. With this opening, the retailer owns 222 operational stores in Romania.
