ROMANIA: Moderate growth for the beer market in the first seven months of this year | Progresiv
The beer market in Romania increased by over 2% in volume in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period in 2016, according to data of the Romanian Brewers Association.
"The evolution of the beer market in January - July 2017 was a positive, but undoubtedly moderate one. In this moment, we believe that the prerequisites are met for the market to continue its evolution, but only the end-of-year results will confirm or deny the strengthening of this trend. A decisive factor in the positive evolution of the beer market is clearly still to ensure a predictable economic context and regulatory framework, which has allowed the beer market to evolve naturally from last year, relying on on the dynamics of supply and demand", said Julia Leferman, General Director of the Romanian Brewers Association.
In order to buy a liter of beer, a Romanian must work for 22 minutes, while a German has to work only 8 minutes and a Dutch 9 minutes, according to estimates based on Euromonitor and Numbeo data. "The intervention of an unpredictable economic factor can increase this gap at any time, with negative consequences for the whole chain of activities related to beer production: agriculture, HoReCa, retail, transport, packaging industry" added Julia Leferman.
The Romanian Brewers Association includes Bergenbier, Heineken, United Romanian Breweries Bereprod, Ursus Breweries, Martens, Clinica de Bere, Soufflet Malt Romania and the Hops Producers Association.
The volume of the beer market in Romania remained in 2016 at the level of the previous year, of 15.8 million hectoliters. Romania currently has a consumption of 80 liters of beer per capita, being ranked 7th in the European Union.
