ROMANIA: Mega Image launched its own online store | Progresiv
Mega Image retailer, part of Ahold-Delhaize group, has launched its own online store, currently available in beta version. The Mega Image online store comprises 15 product categories, which can be ordered online and later delivered at home. The minimum order is 50 lei and the transport is free of charge. In addition, customers who live in Bucharest can choose to pick up products from the 12 points set up in the Capital.
In parallel, the company will continue its partnership with the online retailer eMag, signed three years ago. The Ahold Delhaize Group has a strong online presence through the platforms it owns - bol.com (the leader of online commerce in Belgium and the Netherlands), ah.nl or Peapod (platform available in the US).
Online retail for food products does not exceed 20 million euros in Romania. The main competitors of Mega Image on the online area are the stores owned by the French retailer Carrefour (Carrefour-Online.ro) and Cora (cora.ro).
Founded in 1995, Mega Image is the largest supermarket chain in Romania, currently operating 567 commercial units. The company, with over 10,000 employees, ended 2016 with a business of 4.32 billion lei, reporting a 21% increase compared to 2015. Recently, Mega Image made a strategic move on the proximity format and launched a new Shop & Go store concept. All retail units opened in May this year under the Shop & Go banner were inaugurated under the new format.
