ROMANIA: Mega Image increased its sales by 11% in Q2 | Progresiv
Retailer Mega Image, part of the Dutch-Belgian group Ahold-Delhaize, reported sales up by 11% in the second quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, according to the group's interim financial report.
The April-June period marked an important step for Mega Image, the retailer inaugurating its first commercial unit in Cluj-Napoca. Moreover, according to the published information, in the coming period, Mega Image will continue its expansion in Transylvania.
At region level, Ahold Delhaize achieved net sales of 3.9% in Q2 versus the same period last year, to 1.43 billion euros. In terms of comparable sales (excluding fuel sales), they rose by 1.7% between April and June, with Romania, Serbia and the Czech Republic contributing significantly to this increase. According to the report, in Central and South Eastern Europe, 111 commercial units were inaugurated during this period.
Founded in 1995, Mega Image is the largest supermarket chain in Romania. The retailer is part of Ahold Delhaize Group, an international retailer operating on three continents. According to results reported to the Ministry of Finance, the company ended 2016 with 4.32 billion lei business, reporting an increase of 21.39% compared to 2015. Regarding the profit, the retailer reported a net result 134.8 million lei, up by 31% from 2015.
