ROMANIA: Meda – for 2018 "we are cautious and aim for a total growth of 5%" | Progresiv
Cold cuts producer Meda, owned by Luchi Georgescu entrepreneur, ended last year with a turnover of about 158 million lei, by up 15% compared to 2016, and for this year estimates a "cautious" advance of 5%, stated, for Progresiv, Mihai Dinculescu, Marketing Director of the company.
"For us, the challenges of 2017 were the commodity prices and the human resources crisis. We have a factory in Bucharest, and the most acute staff crisis is here", Mihai Dinculescu explained.
This year, Meda will launch the raw-dried products on the market, while finalizing the 3 million-euro investment in a new production unit dedicated to this type of product. Moreover, the company has planned additional investments of one million euros.
The business increase in 2018 will be supported by sales growth on the categories of raw-dried and boiled-smoked salami, plus specialty and ham products.
"In 2018, we believe we will have a similar consumption to 2017. As a trend, packing patterns that go well with IKAs, that is to say, pre-packaged products with a fixed mass (stick or sliced), are likely to grow. The IKA channel will continue its expansion", Mihai Dinculescu added.
