ROMANIA: Lidl consolidates its presence in the eastern part of the country with a new logistic center | Progresiv
German retailer Lidl continues the expansion process in Romania by building a new logistic center that will ensure the supply of the chain of stores in Moldova, being an extremely important logistic point for streamlining the distribution process in the eastern part of the country.
The new regional headquarters will be located in Cordun, in the immediate vicinity of Roman. The warehouse will have a total built-up area of 44,960.00 square meters, on an area of 132,000 square meters and will serve 50 Lidl stores in the eastern part of the country. An important factor in choosing the location was its proximity to the European road E85, which makes it possible to streamline the supply processes and thus maintain the average transport distance of products to stores below 150 kilometers.
"Our commitment to the environment from the entry into the Romanian market is a factor that guides us in all business operations. The Roman warehouse, as well as all our new buildings, is thought to be a sustainable building, starting with the choice of location, allowing the logistics to become more efficient, to the technologies that will be used during construction and those that will be implemented in the everyday activities, once it becomes functional", said Frank Wagner, Chairman of Lidl Romania.
The process of building the new facility is part of the company's sustainability approach, using low-impact technologies. Moreover, the building itself has been designed to have a low carbon footprint - for example, to heat the deposit, heat recovery from the refrigeration system is used.
Lidl is one of Europe's top retailers. The company is present in 30 countries around the world including Romania and operates approximately 10,000 stores and over 150 logistics centers in 28 countries worldwide. On the local market, the retailer owns 212 commercial units, and last year reported sales of 5.57 billion lei, up by 18% over the previous year, which ranks it third among the top retailers according to turnover.
