ROMANIA: Doncafé producer’s sales remain on a downward trend in Q1 | Progresiv
Strauss Romania, the producer of Doncafé coffee brand, reported a 6.7% drop in sales in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 to 45.7 million lei, according to company data.
"The decrease in local currency sales was caused primarily by the growing competition, which led to a decrease in the sold quantities. Shekeli sales on the Romanian market recorded a decrease of 1 million shekels in the first quarter compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The result was affected by the positive exchange rate difference as a result of the appreciation of the leu against the shekel", the financial report said.
At group level, Strauss recorded a 2.5 percent advance for the coffee division, to 986 million shekels. The value in lei of the financial indicators was calculated at an exchange rate of 1 shekel = 0.914 lei.
The Israeli Strauss Coffee Group has been present in Romania since 1994 and has a production unit in Bucharest. The manufacturer owns the Doncafé, Fort and Amigo brands, the latter being acquired in 2014 from the Brazilian company CIA Iguacu De Café Soluvel for 20 million dollars.
