ROMANIA: Alka to invest 11.5 million euros in a new biscuits and snacks factory in Ploiesti | Progresiv
Alka, one of the leading producers and distributors of sweets, salty snacks and coffee in Romania, is investing over 11.5 million euros in building a new production capacity for biscuits and salty snacks, located in Ploiesti. The investment will be an integrated chain type, from the takeover of the main raw material to the direct sale to consumers.
"We are constantly trying to offer our customers what they want, and our research has shown that Alka salty snacks and biscuits are the most loved ones. Thus, we decided to open a new production capacity, in addition to the one we already have in Bucharest. An ambitious project for which we have already received the vote of confidence by obtaining a grant of 2.4 million euros", said Ady Hirsch, CEO of Alka Group.
The new production unit will be located within the Ploiesti Industrial Park on a total area of over 10,000 square meters. The factory will be made up of a production hall, a warehouse of raw materials, an administrative building, a local technical building, and a store with a terrace.
Out of the 11.5 million euros, over 3.5 million euros come from private co-financing, and about 2.4 million euros is non-reimbursable public aid. In the first phase, the new production facility will create about 100 new jobs.
Last summer, the company completed an investment of 500,000 euros in a central warehouse located in Mogosoaia, of over 3,000 square meters.
In 2016, the group reported a turnover of 155 million lei and currently has over 600 employees.
The company's portfolio consists of: sweet cookies (Prajitura Casei), sweet biscuits (Biscuitii Casei), wafers (Alfers), salty snacks (Toortitzi, Covrigeii Casei), coffee (Gold Mocca and Stretto). The company is also the importer and distributor of Perfetti Van Melle products, for the Chupa Chups and Mentos brands.
