ROMANIA: Alexandrion launches single malt production with a 20 million euros investment | Progresiv
Alexandrion Grup, one of the most important local spirits producers, launched production of single malt whiskey in the Pleasa factory (Prahova County), placing Romania on the map of single malt producers.
"We plan to put 10,000 barrels to mature, which is equivalent to about 2.5 million liters. And this category involves significant costs because the raw material is expensive, the machines are expensive and the storage is very important. Thus, we have made a five-year plan and I estimate that the investments will exceed 20 million euros", said Nawaf Salameh, president of Alexandrion Grup.
In addition to the start of single malt production, Alexandrion Grup has ambitious projects outside the country, involving the construction of a factory in the United States and the association with one of the most important players in Brazil.
"Soon we will start the collaboration with one of Brazil's largest spirits producers to distribute our products. At the same time we are launching a project in the United States of America. It's about opening a distillery to produce US-specific drinks, not just about exports. We also want to bring in Romania as many premium products as possible," said Nawaf Salameh.
Currently, exports account for about 10% of total turnover, while imports account for 10% of revenue. "We want to be globally present with Alexandrion's products and our ongoing projects (the US factory and Brazilian distribution) will help us do that. America, Brazil and Romania will be the centers of production and will supply products all over the world because our goal is to invest in a distillery in Brazil as well", the manager added.
Established in 1994, Alexandrion has created some of the strongest Romanian brands recognized both locally and internationally. The company owns brands such as Alexandrion, Brancoveanu, Saber, as well as imported products such as Beluga vodka. The producer ended 2016 with net business of 149 million lei, up by 25% over the previous year and doubled its profit to 19 million lei.
