Rewe tops 60 billion euros FY revenue mark for first time | Progresiv
The Rewe Group has reported a fiscal milestone after it broke through the 60 billion euros barrier for annual revenues last year, the first time it has done so.
In 2018, Rewe’s overall revenue grew by 4.7% year-on-year to 61.2 billion euros, helped by a 4.5% increase in its home market and a 5.2% rise internationally.
In Germany, the ‘full range’ stores (Rewe, Rewe Center, Rewe To Go) saw revenues grow by 12.3% to 23.8 billion euros, helped in part by the roll-out of the new Rewe 2020 store concept. International full range stores recorded a 6.2% rise to 9.4 billion euros (+6.8% constant-currency basis), driven in particular by a 17% jump at Billa stores across Central and Eastern Europe.
Meanwhile, the Penny banner saw its domestic revenue rise by 3.1% to 7.6 billion euros, while it recorded a 7.5% increase to 4.8 billion euros internationally. And finally, the group’s DIY banners saw their revenue edge up 0.9% to 2.2 billion euros.
Lionel Souque, CEO of the Group, noted: “REWE Group is on a healthy growth trajectory, both nationally and internationally … The 2018 business year was one of the best in the history of our company – and this despite ongoing burdens due to the renovations at Sky stores. The strength in our core business gives us the opportunity to drive forward new business models and innovations that will be the foundation for a continued positive development of our company in the future.” (www.kamcity.com)
