POLAND: Biedronka launches goBio range | Progresiv
From January 11th, 2018, Jerónimo Martins-owned Biedronka is launching a new offer of organic products, with an EU organic farming logo, under the slogan “Nature can be proud of us”.
The goBIO brand is the start of a range which will be expanded over time. The retailer said that customers buying from the range of around 20 products can be assured of strict EU regulations.
Polish shoppers are increasingly prioritising health and organic food in their choice of products, and the goBIO range is in response to this. Particularly as the initial range focuses on products which customers start their daily shopping with, such as: milk, eggs, natural marmalade, honey, pasta, extra virgin olive oil and rice. Price is still a decisive factor when buying, but the increase in purchasing power of Polish consumers is a reason why the Polish organic food market presents an opportunity for further intensive development.
Organic fruits and vegetables have been available for a few years in Biedronka’s stores. According to Biedronka, the organic market in Poland is increasing by over 100% each year, in line with the dynamic development of ecological products in Western Europe. Other organic brands from grocery retails are: Tesco Organic, Auchan Bio, Piotr and Pawel Bio.
Michal Gontarz, director of Jerónimo Martins Polska said, as the largest retail chain in Poland, Biedronka is the first-choice store for over 80% of Poles. As such, there is plenty of opportunity to be socially responsible and promote a diet for good health, as well as offering products tailored to the environmentally conscientious consumer.
