Penny Market continues stores expansion in Italy | Progresiv
German discount supermarket chain Penny Market opened four new stores in Italy during December, taking its total store count in the country to 365. 
The latest opening was in Piacenza, which is the retailer's first store in the northern Italian city, and its tenth in the Emilia-Romagna region, reports local daily Il Piacenza.
The new store offers a wide range of products, including local produce and regional specialities, as well as private label goods and national brands. The store also includes a butcher's counter, delicatessen, bakery, and wine cellar.
The building itself has been designed to be energy efficient, with the installation of thermal insulation, LED lighting, and new refrigeration systems.
Earlier this month, Penny Market Italia also opened two new supermarkets in the Lombardy region – in Abbiategrasso and Chiari – as well as its first store in Molfetta.
The store openings are part of the retailer's expansion project, which aims to invest 200 million euros in the two-year period 2017-2018, of which 96 million euros was earmarked for 2017.
In October, the retailer opened seven new stores in Liguria, which it acquired from grocery retailer Dico. (www.esmmagazine.com)
