Metro AG reports slight rise in FY sales | Progresiv
The new Metro AG has reported its preliminary results for the last fiscal year, marking its first full-year figures since the demerger.
For the period, group sales were up 1.6% to 37.1 billion euros, while they grew 1.1% on a constant-currency basis, even as LFL sales edged up 0.5%.
Sales at the Cash & Carry unit rose by 3% to 29.9 billion (+2.3% constant-currency basis), on LFL growth of 0.9%. Meanwhile, sales at the Real hypermarket unit declined by 3.1% to 7.2 billion, as LFL sales slid by 1%, hurt primarily by store closures.
Olaf Koch, Chairman of Metro’s management board, noted: “The new Metro increased sales in the first independent quarter. We made some significant progress in the fourth quarter, particularly in Metro Wholesale’s delivery business and Real’s online business. We can look back on a positive financial year overall, in which we also successfully completed our transitional year and sharpened the focus of our business by splitting up the previous Metro Group”.
