Mega Image, two-digit sales growth in Q1 | Progresiv
Mega Image retailer, part of the Ahold Delhaize Group, posted a 19% increase in sales in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, according to the company's financial report. The result was sustained by the performance of both comparable sales and new store openings.
"In the Central and South Eastern Europe region, net sales increased by 2.6% to 1.44 billion euros, while comparable sales increased by 0.4%. In Greece, comparable sales were on a negative trend due to the strong competition that invested in new store openings and remodeling. Romania reported a comparable sales advance of 11.9% and sales in Serbia and the Czech Republic had a strong growth", said the financial report.
At group level, Ahold Delhaize reported for the first quarter a 2.5% rise in constant exchange rates to 14.9 billion euros, supported by solid performance in physical stores and a strong growth of online businesses.
In Romania, Mega Image operated at the end of last year 595 stores, of which 510 in the capital and 85 commercial units in the rest of the country. Last year the retailer opened the first stores in Cluj-Napoca, and this year Mega Image announced that it puts another city on the expansion map - Timisoara - the first stores being planned for opening in the second quarter.
