Lidl building major drinks plant in the UK | Progresiv
MEG, part of the holding company that owns Lidl, has had its plans for a major beverage production facility near Derby approved by the local council. The site, MEG’s first factory in the UK, will eventually supply Lidl with bottled water and soft drinks.
A statement from the firm said: “The MEG group of companies, a subsidiary of the Schwarz Group (Lidl and Kaufland), is planning to build a beverage production plant in Great Britain.”
It adds: “MEG has supplied beverages to British and Irish branches of Lidl for many years. The newly planned facilities will significantly shorten transport routes, helping to further improve the company’s carbon footprint and reduce costs.”
The facility on the Dove Valley Park industrial estate will also supply the Irish market. (www.kamcity.com)
