Kaufland to enter Australia | Progresiv
German discount retailer, Kaufland, is preparing to open its first store in Australia. Kaufland has reportedly bought a site, approximately 3km south of Adelaide's central business district in Forestville for 25 million Australian dollars (19.3 million US dollars), to build its first store in Australia. Its new flagship store will cover up to 20,000 sq. m retail space and will stock around 60,000 SKUs.
The store will be almost five times larger than standard Coles and Woolworths' stores.
Kaufland aims to offer a one-stop shop experience and a destination for customers to purchase groceries as well as domestic appliances. With Aldi and Cotsco offering highly competitive prices and growing strongly in recent years, Coles also reviewing its pricing strategy and all retailers in the market keeping a close eye on Amazon's imminent arrival, Kaufland's entry will add to the fierce competition.
