Kaufland allocates 150 million euros for development on the Moldova market | Progresiv
German retailer Kaufland plans to invest up to 150 million euros for development on the Moldova market in the next 10 years, the company said. The budget will be earmarked for opening 15 stores and creating over 1500 jobs.
"Kaufland's development plan for Moldova remains unchanged at this stage. Thus, we plan to open at least 3 stores in Chisinau, out of a total of 15 units in Moldova. These figures show that we do not remain at the level of intent, but we put into practice our principles of activity, one of which is sustainable development. We aim to bring modern retail services to the Republic of Moldova, as we are specific to and how we have used our customers in any market where we operate in", said Kaufland representatives.
The first store will be inaugurated in Chisinau, but the retailer did not give an exact date of the opening.
"We work intensively for our future customers in the Republic of Moldova, but according to the principle of developing the company on any market, including in the Republic of Moldova, until the actual opening of the stores, a pre-requisite stage is being carried on, compulsory at group level. This is a careful monitoring of the pre-construction logistics process, which is in the hands of real estate developers", said the retailer's representatives.
Kaufland, part of the German Schwarz Group, is one of the largest operators in European food retail, with over 1,200 stores in seven countries (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania). In Romania, the retailer owns a chain of 116 stores. In 2016, Kaufland reported a turnover of 9.69 billion lei, marking a 5.6% growth rate.
