Kaufland accelerates expansion in 2019 and wants "at least 9 new stores" | Progresiv
German retailer Kaufland, the leader of the local retail industry, will inaugurate this year "at least 9 new stores" in Romania, and in Moldova the company will enter with two stores for the beginning, said Valer Hancas, Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs Kaufland Romania. 
Kaufland Romania inaugurated its first store in Ilfov County, Bragadiru, reaching a chain of 122 locations. The store has a total area of 4.773 square meters and is located on No. 229A Alexandria Street. Following this opening, 70 new jobs were created.
The Bragadiru store is the first to implement a new premium concept at the Information Office, which includes a standalone point of sale for tobacco products. It is located at the entrance of the store, it has 16 square meters and is equipped with a cash register that allows fast purchase. The Tabak Shop concept is implemented for the first time in Romania.
Among the available aisles, there are vegetables-fruit, assisted displays, bakery, basic foods, sweets, drinks, dairy products, bulk frozen products, non-food products and drugstore, but also a large assortment of bio articles. The new store also includes a fresh fish aisle with a wide range of classic and premium products.
"In this financial year we may open more than 10 new stores. In April we will open a store in the capital - where we will reach 14 locations - and in Sibiu we will enter with a store in a shopping center that will be inaugurated in 2019. As for the plans for Moldova we can say that we will open this year two stores, the first inauguration being planned for the second semester", Valer Hancas said.
Kaufland is among the largest retail companies in Europe, with over 1,270 stores in 7 countries and a chain of 122 stores in Romania. According to the latest available financial data, in 2017 the company reported businesses of 10.08 billion lei at local level.
