Jerónimo Martins could enter Romania this year | Progresiv
Portuguese chain Jerónimo Martins (JM) reiterated its intention to enter new markets amid the business growth, the main objective being "to cross Poland's borders to Romania," said Pedro Soares dos Santos, president of the group. 
"In Poland, we have reached a business dimension that, in order to continue to have a healthy growth pace, we must cross the borders. And Central Europe is, for us, the ideal destination. And more precisely, Romania, which fits our consumer profile", said Pedro Soares dos Santos.
In order to ensure organic growth this year, the Portuguese retailer plans to invest between 700 and 750 million euros to develop the Biedronka, Hebe, Pingo Doce and Ara chains. For example, last year Biedronka allocated 372 million euros in opening 122 stores, 230 remodeled storess and improving logistics infrastructure.
Jerónimo Martins sales rose by 6.5% last year, to 17.3 billion euros, while profit rose 4.1%, to 401 million euros.
