Japan Tobacco to invest 100 million dollars more in Poland | Progresiv
Japan Tobacco Inc. (JTI) said it will invest 100 million dollars in the production of heated tobacco products called PLOOM tobacco in a central Polish town of Stare Gostkowo.
PLOOM tobacco is “heat not burn” (HNB) products which emit less smoke and smell than conventional cigarettes as in Japan regular e-cigarettes with nicotine-laced liquid are banned. Japan Tobacco’s 28,000-square-meter plant in Stare Gostkowo near Łódź will begin its production of PLOOM tobacco by the end of 2018 but the company had already been producing cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, tobacco and pipe tobacco in Poland.
The company has estimated employing more 1,000 people for the new production line reaching a staff of 1,800. With the broadening of the group’s production with innovative tobacco products, JTI total investments in Poland have amounted to 800 million dollars since 2007.
Over 527 billion cigarettes were produced in the whole European Union in 2016 and Poland was ranked second producing 99 billion cigarettes. Japan Tobacco International (JTI) operates in over 130 countries and is the owner of many popular tobacco brands, including Winston, Camel, Mevius, LD.
In total, there are around nine million regular smokers in Poland. The nicotine contained in tobacco is extremely addictive, therefore it requires a large amount of determination to quit.
An expert at the Institute of Oncology, claims that on average a smoker needs eight attempts in order to quit cigarettes once and for all. (www.polandinenglish.info)
