Edeka wants to open organic food stores under the Naturkind banner | Progresiv
According to a media report, Edeka wants to open organic food stores. New specialist stores with full range, organic market and drugstore could emerge. According to a media report of the industry newspaper "Lebensmittel Zeitung", the supermarket chain Edeka plans the opening of its own organic stores chain. For this, Germany 's largest grocery retailer registered with the Trademark Office the trademark "Naturkind - The Market for Conscious Enjoyment". Also three logo variants have already been registered in the trademark register.
Internally, shops-in-shops would be discussed, writes the "Lebensmittel Zeitung". The new organic food stores could be integrated into major Edeka supermarkets, e-centers and in stores between 500 and 800 square meters. When a first organic store of the brand "Naturkind" could open, is still unclear. At a request of the trade newspaper Edeka did not want to comment on the plans.
Edeka is not the first food chain to try opening organic food stores. Main competitor Rewe opened its first "Temma" branch in Cologne in 2009. With "Temma" Rewe wanted to commit itself in the organic segment. The project failed, however, after just eight nine years, seven of the nine organic shops were closed, two more were sold to a former Rewe employee, who continued this as an independent entrepreneur.
